Season 1 of X Factor USA premiered on FOX on September 21, 2011 on Fox and ended on December 22, 2011 with singer Melanie Amaro winning.
The competition will be split into several stages: auditions, bootcamp, judges' houses and live shows.
Auditions for the show started in March 2011 and ended in June 2011.

The Los Angeles March 27th audition reportedly broke the auditions record, with over 10,000 participants.

Originally scheduled to end on April 30, 2011, the booths' opening ended up being extended until May 8, 2011. According to the official site over 56,000 people have auditioned via this method. After it was announced that people auditioning through this method was in such high demand, the booths' opening ended up being extended until May 15, 2011.
Changes for season 2

On January 9, 2012 Fox admitted that the show would undergo many changes for its second season. One of the big ones announced was on January 30, 2012 when it was revealed that host Steve Jones and judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger would all not be returning.
