Two days after the final, it was announced that he had signed a deal with Sony BMG to release a debut swing album. The album was released on 12 March 2007, the same day as fellow finalist Ben Mills debut album, and went on to enter the UK charts at #1 and Ray made history as both the youngest male solo artist as well as the first-ever artist to have a solo chart topper without releasing a single.

He embarked on his own solo tour from September to November 2007, where he performed within 30 cities across the UK. However, on 6 November 2007, it was announced that he had been subsequently dropped by Sony BMG.

Since then he has mainly appeared in British reality television competitions, winning both Dancing on Ice and Get Your Act Together.
