Katie Waissel (born January 27, 1986) is an English singer-songwriter from Harefield, Middlesex who finished in 7th place on Series 7 of The X Factor. Her mentor was Cheryl Cole.

The X Factor

Katie auditioned for the show, singing Queen's "We Are The Champions". Despite stumbling over the lyrics, she was given another chance and wowed the judges with her rendition of the Etta James classic "At Last" and was put through to bootcamp, where she was shocked to find herself being the first girl put through to Judges' Homes.

At Judges' Homes, Katie sang "Smile" but completely fell apart in front of her mentor, Cheryl Cole, and her guest advisor, will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas. Claiming that the song was an emotional one for her, Katie gave it another go but stumbled through the lyrics again. Despite the mess-up, she was put through to the live shows. The decision was a very controversial one because viewers felt that Katie didn't deserve to make it through over girls who had done better then her.

On week 1 of the live shows, Katie sang her first audition song, "We Are The Champions" by Queen, but was put in the bottom 3 by the public vote. By week five, Katie had managed to survive elimination 4 times, but wasn't able to survive it any longer by week 8 when she was finally eliminated in a double elimination. She finished in 7th place.

Post X Factor UK

On March 17, 2012, Katie released her self-titled debut album on Chamberlain Records. She is now the lead singer of a band called Red Velvet. The band has since released 4 singles as free downloads.

Personal Life

While on a trip to Las Vegas in 2009, Katie almost married producer Phillip Schwinger but called it off at the last minute. The couple later split. She later married model Brad Alphonso in September 2012, but she later announced that they had separated on December 30, 2012. They later divorced. She has been married to comedian and radio personality Brian Moote since 2015.
