A high school student from New South Wales, he previously auditioned for the show in Season 7 and made it past the auditions and bootcamp to the Five Seat Challenge as part of the Under 25s Boys category mentored by Chris Isaak but was cut at this stage of the show.
He returned a year later and impressed the judges with his rendition of "Hello" by Adele. He successfully made it all the way to the Three Seat Challenge as part of the Under 22s category mentored by Adam Lambert. He was chosen as one of the Top 3 for the live shows.
He made it all the way to the final without placing in the Bottom 2 and on November 21, 2016 he was announced as the winner, coinciding with his 17th birthday.

He expressed an interest in representing Australia in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest. On March 7th 2017, he was chosen by SBS to represent the country in the contest in Kiev, Ukraine. He performed the song "Don't Come Easy" and qualified for the final where he finished in 9th place.
