Diana Vickers (born July 30, 1991) is an English singer-songwriter, fashion designer and actress from Blackburn, Lancashire who competed on Series 5 of The X Factor, finishing in 4th place. Her mentor was Cheryl Cole.

The X Factor

Known for her unusual yet beautifully soulful voice, Vickers impressed the judges with her take on the Damien Rice song "The Blower's Daughter", resulting in judge Louis Walsh to refer to her as a "hippie". She continued to impress through bootcamp and made it to Judges' Homes with Cheryl Cole as her mentor. She, along with eventual winner Alexandra Burke, made it to the live shows.

At the live shows, Vickers shone but was almost derailed in week 5 when she came down with laryngitis. On doctors' orders, Vickers didn't perform that week, and the judges gave her a pass, the first time a contestant had been excused due to illness. Vickers came back to perform in week six, and in week seven she took on the Take That song "Patience", which impressed future judge Gary Barlow so much that he offered to sign her if Simon Cowell didn't want to, which Cowell declined.

Despite being the bookies' favorite to win, Vickers was eliminated in the semifinals, finishing in 4th place.

Performances

Post The X Factor

Despite finishing 4th, Vickers got herself a record deal with RCA Records and released her first album, Songs from The Tainted Cherry Tree, on May 3, 2010.  It entered the UK charts at #1.

On June 30, 2011, Vickers announced via her Tumblr blog that she had left RCA Records. She has since released two promotional singles, "Music to Make Boys Cry" and "Kiss Of a Bullet", for free via download and posted a clip of another song, "Boy in Paris", on Soundcloud.

She recently finished work on her second album, Music to Make Boys Cry. It was released on September 13, 2013 via So Recordings. It was received positive reviews from critics and peaked at number 9 on the UK Independent Albums Chart.

In addition to her singing career, Vickers has branched out as an actress, having starred in the West End production of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice and in the film The Perfect Wave. She also made her TV acting debut in the show Give Out Girls, which debuted on Comedy Central on October 14, 2014. She also has her own fashion line, Dee V for Very, as well as her own make-up line.
